BLUFF TOWN HALL
THE NEW STRUCTURE. OPENING IN AUGUST. (From Our Correspondent.) The lack of suitable and sufficient accommodation for official functions at Bluff has been felt for many years, but the building at present in the course of erection by the Borough Council should meet the needs of the port town for years to come. It was originally intended that the building should be even larger, but an additional loan of £2OOO was not sanctioned by the ratepayers with the result that the plans had to be curtailed. The contractor, Mr A. J. Ball, has made good progress with the work during the past few weeks and the opening date has been fixed tentatively for August 20 when a grand carnival will be run by a citizens’ committee to raise funds to purchase furniture as this item was not covered in the estimates. The hall when will have a seating capacity of 600, the dimensions of the floor space being 70 feet by 47 feet. The stage measures 24 feet by 14 feet. A cinema box has been provided for together with a store room for films, this latter having been rendered necessary by the new regulations. Ample dressing rooms, conveniences and ante-rooms are included in the plans. The building itself is in reinforced concrete. The walL« inside will be panelled to a height of eight feet and the walls above that will be finished in granite plaster. The ceiling will be finished in panelling and beams. The grounds surrounding the new hall are to be suitably laid out. Both right-of-ways on either side of the hall will be laid in asphalt and lights will be provided at each entry. Three street lights will also be provided.
