REDUCED TAXATION

AMENDED AMERICAN BILL. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Washington, May 24. Exceeding the Treasury’s latest “limits of safety” by 20,000,000 dollars House and Senate conferences agreed upon a tax reduction of 223,495,000 dollars. The bill will be offered to the Senate with a request that the action favouring the publication of tax returns be rescinded. Members of both Houses feel that President Coolidge will approve of the Bill, which constitutes a defeat for Mr Mellon’s insistence for the revelation of inheritance tax. —Australian Press Association.
