HARVEST HOME BALL. (From Our Correspondent.) The ladies of the Hall Committee are making a determined effort to have the enlarged hall painted and fitted up with a few extras, such as mirrors and a stage curtain. To raise funds a harvest home ball was held on May 11. This was well attended, a bus load coming even from Invercargill, and it was quite evident that all those present enjoyed themselves. A gratifying sum of £l4 was made after all expenses were paid. Those ladies who worked so hard to make the ball a success can be complimented on their efforts. About half the amount required for the work is now in hand and to raise the rest a series of six or seven fortnightly progressive euchre parties will be held every second Saturday, commencing on May 26. Two small prizes will be given each evening and at the end of the season there will be two good prizes for the winning lady and gentleman, consisting of a handbag and a pocket-book. These parties, with a short dance after supper, will be a pleasant means of filling in some of the long evenings. An accident which might have been attended with worse results took place on Tuesday evening. A local motor-cyclist, coming over the top of a nearby hill, was unable to see a cart without lights, which was travelling the same way, and struck the side of the cart. He was thrown and sustained a cut on his face and is suffering slightly from shock. But for his slow speed he might have been more severely injured. The driver of the cart did not stop to ascertain if he needed help. The end of the milking season is now near. Some residents are sending to the factory only every other day. Owing tb the continued dry weather after Christmas the supply of milk has not been so good this year. Rabbit trapping is flourishing, and the übiquitous bunny is not so noticeable now as he was a few weeks ago.
