PRODUCTION OF OIL
BLENHEIM BORE ACTIVE. INCREASED FLOW REPORTED. A report of a considerable increase in the flow from the Blenheim oil bore at Moturoa has caused much interest among shareholders of the company which is operating the bore, reports the New Zealand Herald. The chairman of directors, Mr W. P. Martin, said that several lengths of lOin. casing had been removed during the past few days, leaving the bottom of the string of casing a little below the 2000 ft. level. The flow, which did not include a great deal of water, was estimated to be at the rate of 12 to 14 barrels a day of 24 hours, a barrel being 40 gallons. If it continued, this flow should make the bore payable. Activity at the bore was reported a few days ago, but the volume of the flow this morning represented a marked increase. The development was considered to be of sufficient importance to require a meeting of directors to-day. The company has a capital of £6OOO, of which £5OO had not been subscribed before to-day’s meeting. Reports from Stratford indicate that recent developments at Mr McGregor’s bore, on Prospect Road, Whangamonoma, are held to be of importance. Recently gas was encountered and, on analysis, it was found to be similar to gases found in American bores.
