DIAMOND JUBILEE

NO LIQUOR AT CHRISTCHURCH FUNCTIONS. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, May 23. On account of the low prices being charged for tickets and the necessity for keeping expenditure to reasonable limits it has been decided that no intoxicating liquor will be provided at any of the functions in connection with the city’s diamond jubilee efflebrations. A proposal was made that liquor should be provided at the main table at the civic luncheon and none at the other tables, but the Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, took the stand that there should be liquor for everyone or for none. As it was found impossible to provide liquor for everyone without incurring loss on the function it was agreed to cut it out altogether.
