FATALITY NEAR OHAI
SLIP ON RAILWAY EXTENSION WORKS. ANOTHER MAN INJURED. As the result of a slip which occurred on the extension works of the Ohai Railway Board’s new line to Birchwood at 10.30 a.m. yesterday a young man 21 years of age named James Henry, a resident of Nightcaps, was killed and another man named Lawrence Fielding was injured. Although slips are not altogether uncommon in the locality owing to the formation of the land, those who were working on the hillside never dreamed of such a tragic slip. Without any warning a portion of the hill, consisting mostly of clay, came awa ,r and Fielding and Henry were unfortunate enough to be caught by the falling debris. Both were thrown violently against one of the boxes used for the removal of the spoil, but it was Henry who fared worst, for his skull was so badly fractured as to make death practically instantaneous. Fielding escaped with a broken collar-bone and severe bruises, and his condition is not regarded as at all seri- - ous, as admission to a hospital was not considered necessary by Dr. McQuilkan, who attended him.
