FARMERS’ UNION
WENDONSIDE BRANCH.

The annual meeting of the Wendonside Branch was held in the hall on May 8, Mr A. J. Cameron presiding over a small attendance.
The annual report showed that there were 35 members on the roll, seven of which were unfinancial. As a result of the recent canvass by the organizer Mr Harris, 15 new members will be added, bringing the membership up to 50 for the coming year. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £8 1/—which is now to be placed in the Invercargill Savings Bank.
The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr Cameron (re-elected) ; secretary, Mr Paterson (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, J. Denis, W. Collins and C. Sutton; auditor, A. Robertson; executive, president, secretary, vice-presidents, auditor and Messrs H. Collins, B. Hurley and F. Elliott. The president was appointed delegate to the subexecutive, and the secretary as delegate to the Provincial Conference and Provincial Executive.
It was resolved that the subscription remain at £1 and that the levy in connection with the Canterbury farmers’ visit be paid out of the branch funds.
A short discussion took place regarding the proposed Farmers’ Club rooms in Gore, and it was decided to await the report as to the probable cost. Regarding the agitation by the Education endowment tenants for the right to purchase the freehold of their properties. It was decided to convene a public meeting of all interested to be held in Young’s rooms, Gore, on Tuesday, May 22 at 1.30 p.m. for the purpose of establishing some fighting force which might bring the necessary pressure to bear on the Government.
