MINISTRY OF LABOUR’S REPORT.

DECREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT.

(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 13. The Ministry of Labour’s annual report for 1927 shows that the average number of insured persons in employment last year was greater than in any previous year. Unemployment was 9.6 per cent, compared with 12.3 in the previous year. The number of trade disputes and the number of working days lost by these disputes were the lowest recorded during the 40 years for which statistics are available.

The report states that one important feature of the year was the growth of a definite movement in which all sections of the community displayed interest towards industrial peace. That movement crystallized in an invitation from the employers to the Trades Union to meet for the joint consideration of fundamental factors in industrial relations. —British Official WireJess.
