PRINCE OF WALES

POINT-TO-POINT VICTORY. A VERY POPULAR WIN. London, March 6. Riding his bay mare, Degomme, the Prince of Wales won the Welsh Guards’ race at the Beaufort Hunt Point-to-point meeting at Tetbury, Gloucestershire, on St. David’s Day. Though the going was heavy, the Prince was never seriously challenged and won by twenty lengths. The Prince’s was easily the most popular win of the day, and dense crowds lined the whole of the three-and-a-half- mile course and cheered him as he rode by. He wore white riding breeches, a dark blue coat with buff facings, and a black silk cap, and took fence after fence in a clean and spirited .style. Drawing away from the rest of the field at the start, the Prince was never seriously challenged. Halfway round, at a stiff jump, Colonel Price, on Queensgate, got abreast of the Prince, but in the next furlong or so Degomme took the lead, and at the next obstacle was well in front. Perhaps the most difficult part of the course, a long uphill stretch leading to the last jump but one, showed the Prince’s mount to the best advantage. Degomme drew steadily ahead. At the last fence he stumbled slightly, but quickly recovered and finished in an easy gallop. Colonel Price was second, and Mr. P. S. Ackroyd third. The donor of the Challenge Trophy was Captain W.
