TOWN RESERVES
CURATOR’S REPORT. The Curator (Mr J. A. McPherson) reported to last evening’s meeting of the Council as follows: GARDENS AND RESERVES. “A commencement has been made with the planting out of spring bedding plants and bulbs. Some planting will be held over till after May Fair to avoid any damage. South-end Croquet Club’s greens are now receiving their annual overhaul and top-dress-ing. PARK. “Hedges have been cut and the Northend Croquet Club’s greens overhauled and topdressed. Ashes are being spread on paths as it becomes available. SANDY POINT. “In preparation for erecting If miles of facines along the top of the present ‘big bight’ dune, two men are engaged cutting stakes and scrub at Otatara. 3,000 stakes will be required and 2,000 bundles of scrub. SEAWARD BUSH. “The additional 98 chains of fence line has been cleared and a start made to procure posts. For a distance of 40 chains the line runs through exceedingly swampy country, this will be fenced first before heavy rains set in. DISPLAY OF CHRYSANTHEMUMS. “A particularly fine display of chrysanthemums is now on show in the greenhouses and well worthy of a visit. Great credit is due to the foreman (Mr W. Stapleton), who is solely responsible for their cultivation.”
