DANCE IN GAOL. A writer in a Christchurch paper, talking of the days of long ago, states that in the ‘fifties the builder of the new lock-up at Christchurch gave a ball in the building on its completion. His guests expressed the pious hope that they would never see the inside of it except as guests. WTiat a pity it was that they had not then heard of Dill’s Best Tobacco, which had been put on the market in 1848 and instantly created quite a furore, in America and other parts of the world. The news, of course, took a long time in travelling in those distant days, and, in fact, despite its immense popularity, Dill’s Best Tobacco had not arrived in New Zealand until only a few months ago. Judging by the rapidly increasing army of Dill’s Best smokers in this country a smoking treat has been missed out here for close on eighty years. (Advt.),
