ORETI BEACH
MOTORIST’S PRAISE. EQUAL TO BEST IN NEW ZEALAND. That northern visitors are impressed with the possibilities of Oreti Beach may be seen from the following letter which was read at the meeting of the Southland Motor Association last night. The writer, Mr D. F. Bauchop, Wellington, was a competitor at the recent motor races held at Oreti Beach. The letter was addressed to the secretary of the Motor Sports Association (Mr B. Ayling) and reads as follows: “Now that I have returned from Invercargill, I wish to put on record my appreciation of the help which you personally, and your committee generally, gave me during the preparation for the recent meeting. Nothing was too much trouble for a'ny of you to do, and I believe the misfortune which overtook me Was more keenly felt by your executive than possibly by myself. However, everybody was extremely kind, and I must say that I am sure there is no beach in the Dominion which can compare with Oreti, when on its best behaviour. Over an experience of years I have never seen Muriwai in a condition to approach Oreti. lam sure that with attention to one or two details which this year’s experience will allow you to put into operation, next year’s meeting will be a splendid success. I shall certainly endeavour to be present there even though not driving and look forward to meeting again, all your executive.” Members expressed their gratification at the unsolicited praise from Wellington, and especially from a gentleman who knew the beaches of New Zealand from every point of view.
