The Rome correspondent of The Time» reports: “Italy possesses 1800 aeroplanes of which 1000 are usable immediately for war purposes, 420 being constructed last year,” said Signor Balbo, Under-Secretary for Air, in the Chamber of Deputies when explaining an expenditure of £7,608,000 for military and civil aviation. He claimed that Italy held third place in European civil aviation, being surpassed by only France and Germany. Italy was opening five new lines in June, including connections with Spain, Germany and Tripoli. He recalled that Italy held the height and speed records and aimed at capturing the records for distance and duration held by America. —Times Service.
