IMPORTED JERSEYS.
SHOW PRIZEWINNERS. Last year when visiting Canada, England and Jersey, Mr W. J. Chynoweth, the wellknown “Marshlands” breeder, made several selections of Jersey females and also secured two young sires to add to his famous “Marshlands” herd. It was only with very great difficulty that Mr Chynoweth was able to bring these cattle to New Zealand, but he finally had them shipped from Jersey Island to America along with shipments being made by prominent breeders there. At the recent Waikato Show he exhibited his first importation, Sybil’s Earl, the bull which combines the blood of Sybil’s Gamboge with that of Fern’s Oxford Noble. Mr Chynoweth had the pleasure of winningthe championship on that occasion, and he has just duplicated this performance at the Cambridge Show, where Sybil’s Earl was first prize three-year-old and secured the championship. At this show Mr Chynoweth won second prize in the two-year-old bull class, second in the bull calf class, second and highly commended in the three-year-old heifer class, first and second in the two-year-old heifer class, first and highly commend in the yearling heifer class first in pairs, and first, second and highly commend in heifer calves. Mr Chynoweth also had a good win in the Breeders’ Group. Considering the competition at the Cambridge Show this indicates that the “Marshlands” herd is undoubtedly one of the outstanding herds in the Dominion. Among the prize winners were included the progeny of Sybil’s Earl (imp.) and Holly Oak Superior Chief, the defunct son of Grannie’s Knight and Lady Superior, 9971b5. butter-fat. Mr Chynoweth has recently decided to dispose of his herd owing to his ill-health.
