Messrs Hunter Bros, and Rice report:— A heavy yarding of sheep forward for the Wyndham, monthly stock gale held on Thursday, a large overflow having to be accommodated in the cattle pens. There was a good representative attendance present. The yarding consisted principally of breeding ewes of an aged class, the majority of the young good ewes being held over for the ewe and ram fair on Friday, March 30. Prices throughout were well maintained and we were successful in disposing of our whole yarding at auction. There was a small yarding of cattle forward, which met a fair demand and late rates were maintained. Fat cows and heifers—£s, £5 10/-, £7, £6 7/6, £6 10/-. LUMSDEN STOCK SALE. There was a large yarding at the stock sale held at the Lumsden yards on Wednesday, about 9000 sheep being offered. Prices generally showed a decline on those which ruled at the sale held a fortnight previously. Fat lambs were not in great demand and a dull sale for these lines was reported. Good prices were obtained for two-tooth ewes, a line sold on behalf of Messrs Andrews and Dorricot, Eyre Creek, bringing 39/7. The sale generally was inclined p .rag and only good lines were sought after. CANTERBURY MARKETS. OATS FIRMER. LITTLE CHANGE IN WHEAT. Christchurch, March 23. The oat market is firmer and sales have been made at 3/9 for A grade Gartons and 3/5 for B grade f.0.b., s.i., spread delivery. There is an inquiry from Home for B grade Gartons for April-May shipment. There has been little change in wheat and few offerings are being made by farmers Ryegrass is firm and quotations are unchanged. Cocksfoot is slightly easier. Machine dressed now is quoted at 1/- per lb. The North Island demand is easing off and merchants expect it to cease altogether during the next ten days. The potato market shows a decline from £5 to £4 15/- for prompt delivery. The April market is still quoted at £5 10/- f.0.b., s.i. Onions are down from £6 to £5 15/-. LONDON MARKETS.
