Major McPherson returned to In vercar* gill by the express last evening. Rev. A. C. Wedderspoon returned to Invercargill by last night’s express. Miss Annie Calder has been appointed fifth assistant at the Matama School. Mr A. W. Jones was a passenger fo? Invercargill by the express from the north, last night.

The Southland Pipe Band returned from last night after attending th© band contest.

Mr L. C, Webb, of Invercargill, wag among the Canterbury College students who were successful in completing theitf B.A. degree. Mr Andrew P. Cowie left Gore yesterday morning en route to Auckland, where he i. 4 to enter the Bible Training Institute in preparation for work on the foreign mission field.

At last night’s meeting of the Gora Borough Council a motion of sympathy wa« passed with Councillor T. Allott in the loss of his mother. The councillors stood in silence as a mark of respect to her memory. A Sydney cable states: Sir George FulleC was entertained at a farewell banquet prior! to his departure for London to assume the Agent-Generalship. Mr T. R. Bavin and other politicians eulogised his long political services to the State.

The following members of the Invercar* gill Rifle Club will take part in the Newr Zealand Championship meeting which opens at Trentham on Thursday:—Dr. Ritchie Crawford, Messrs A. R. Wills, H. H. Moss, A. Cowan, J. Ure, R. Ure, W. McChesney, N. McWilliams, W. S. Ayson and W. Milley.
