HOKONUI NOTES

SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Our Correspondent.) The school picnic was held in Mr Davidson's paddock on Friday, January 27. The weather was ideal and the children, their parents and friends from far and near, spent a delightful afternoon. Following their usual custom the school committee presented each scholar with a prize book, and special attendance prizes were also given for those who had never been absent from school for more than five half days. The following pupils won the first attendance prizes and certificates: Elvina Anderson, Margaret Robb and Donald Anderson. An enjoyable programme of events was drawn up and everything went off spendidly under the capable management of the energetic committee. The committee desire

to thank the many different people who so generously donated trophies and also to tender their thanks to all who had in any way helped to make the function the success it undoubtedly was. Selections on the bagpipes by Pipers Enid King, M. Watson, D. Stuart and R. Mcßae were much appreciated throughout the afternoon. A Scottish song by Mr R. Mcßae was much appreciated.
