BRITISH GOODS
PREFERENCE TARIFF TOO HIGH. London, January 23. “It is national rather than international opinion which has to make itself felt regarding inter-Empire trade,” says a report of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. “Thus there appears to be little true reciprocity in the policies of some of the dominions. For example, they are determined to foster their own industries, and although they continue to give a tariff preference to British goods, it is found with increasingly ominous frequency that even the preferential rate is too high to permit trade flowing anyhow.”—A. and N.Z. and Sun.
