TISBURY CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL SEASON. The annual meeting of the Tisbury Cricket Club was held on Friday evening in the Tisbury Public Hall when there was a large attendance of members and supporters. Mr J. Bassett, president for the 1926-27 season, was in the chair, and expressed his pleasure a the satisfactory manner in which the club had gone through the season. It was stated in the annual report that the period under review had been the most successful in the history of the club. From a sports aspect, the club had done well, practices had been fairly well attended, and the results had been shown in the very creditable performances which the club had made on the playing field. It was during this season that for the first time in the history of the club, a member had produced a century, not out. The club was unfortunate that in the first round of the season they met with defeat and lost the first place to the I.C.C. In addition to the many matches played, the year had been a busy one from the social standpoint. The previous year’s inactivity had left the club in an unsatisfactory financial position, and this had necessitated the holding of several social functions. Much of the season’s success was attributable to the splendid spirit that prevailed in all the activities of the club, and many of the individual members had rendered very valuable service. Although the club had been in an unsatisfactory financial position at the beginning of the year, successful efforts on the part of the members had brought about a great improvement, and it had emerged with a credit balance of over £B. In declining nomination for re-election to the position of president Mr Basset expressed the regret he felt at severing his connection with the club with which he had been associated since it sinception. His interest and good-will would always be with the club and he wished it every success in its future progress. ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS. The office-bearers elected for the season were: President, Mr A. Dean; vicepresident, Messrs J. McCann and G. McDermott, club secretary, Mr G. Nicol, social secretary, Mr S. Smith, club committee, Messrs J. Mclntosh, H. Wixon, W. Johnston, R. Lock and J. Corkin. Club captain, Mr R. Lock. Delegate to Cricket Association, Mr R. Lock. Seven new members were elected. Mr Dean on taking the chair referred to the splendid work the retiring president had done for the club and expressed the thanks of the members for his services. In the course of a brief reply, Mr Bassett said that he had been greatly helped in his work by the interest Mrs Basset had always taken in the club. In conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officers and Mr Bassett was unanimously elected a life member of the club. A minute of appreciation and thanks for the many kindnesses shown to the club by Mrs Basset was recorded. A presentation of a gold medal was made by the president to Mr R. Lock on the occasion of his splendid performance in the match with High School, when he did the hat-trick while bowling, and carried his bat for a century not out.
