SOUTHLAND. Christchurch, August 13. The following team has been chosen to represent Canterbury in the match with Southland next Saturday:—Full-back: J. H. Harris; three-quarters: A. C. Robilliard, S. R. Carleton, J. Steele; five-eighths: H. Lilburne, N. F. McGregor; half back: W. C. Dailey; wing forward: G. Scrimshaw; forwards: .1). T. Burrows, 1 Gray; J.Pickering, G. T. Alley, H. Godfrey, J. B. Jackson, A. White. Emergencies: J. O’Connor, J. Jeffries, T. Robinson, N. Doreen, T. F. Mullan, J. Payne. APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES. Carterton, August 13. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union the matter of appointing a referee to officiate in the representative match, Wairarapa v. Taranaki, at Carterton on Wednesday, was discussed and it was decided by six votes to five that the New Zealand Union be asked to appoint a referee. This action is regarded by the Wairarapa Referees’ Association as highly insulting and a reflection on the ability of members. It has therefore decided that unless the Wairarapa Union requests the Wairarapa Referees’ Association to officiate at next Wednesday’s match it will not officiate at any representative fixture in the Wairarapa either senior or junior. Furthermore, the Wairarapa Referees’ Association decided to communicate with all outside Referees’ Associations asking support in the stand taken up and not to officiate in any ordinary representative match in the Wairarapa. In the interests of football the Wairarapa local Referees’ Association decided to carry on and act at the usual weekly inter-club contests.
