DISTRICT NEWS

WAIMUMU NOTES. (From Our Correspondent.) As the result of the ideal winter weather conditions, ploughing operations are about finished, and some farmers have commenced discing. Top-dressing is also commanding a good deal of attention and large areas have been treated. With the abundance of winter feed the stock have wintered well and although the lambing will not be general for about six weeks yet, odd .lambs have made their appearance. Farmers have recently been employed ploughing the roadlines and trimming their gorse hedges, giving the district quite a tidy appearance. SOCIAL. The fortnightly euchre party was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday last when a keenly contested match was played between married and single people present. The game resulted in a good win for the married folk. At the conclusion of the party a dainty supper was partaken of after which the floor was cleared for dancing. Mrs. A. D. Williamson has been spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs J. Ward. Mrs P. H. McLean is at present on a visit to Christchurch.
