An eye-witness of the earthquake who has arrived at Cairo from Transjordania reports that the ’quake lasted forty seconds. Three hundred people were killed and widespread damage was done. The movement of the lava bed was visible and had a terrifying effect on desert Bedouins, who were inspired with awe.—A. and N.Z.
