SWIMMING MARATHON

LAKE GEORGE CONTEST. (Rec. 7.5 p.m.) New York, July 13. A message from Lake George (New York State) says that William Keating, a New York swimming instructor, won the twenty-four mile swimming Marathon on Lake George for a five thousand dollars prize, finishing here at 4.30 this morning in 18 hours 47 minutes, 18 seconds, after a start from Hague, New York. Few of the hundred odd starters, including several English Channel swimmers were able to withstand the icy water and treacherous currents. —A. and N.Z.
