RECORD PRICES AT CHRISTIES. London, July 8. At Christie’s saleroom, Turner’s two by three feet “Venice—Dogana and Salute” realised 29,000 guineas which is a record price for a small Turner. This picture was sold in 1899 for 8200 guineas. Turner's “City of Utrecht” realised 8500 guineas compared with 6400 guineas paid for it in 1895. Rembrandt’s Portrait of a Man realised 30,000 guineas which is a record for a Rembrandt in London. The occasion was the sale of the famous Ross collection brought from Montreal, comprising 29 pictures which sold in less than an hour for 136,000 guineas.—A. and N.Z.
