SHOPKEEPER FINED

TAMPERED WITH SCALES.

(Per United Press Association.) Auckland, July 8. William Smith was charged before Mr McKean, S.M., with tampering with a set of scales by having a piece of lead attached, causing them to weigh six drams short. It was pleaded that the sugar weighed short was sold by him at 4d per pound less than the other shopkeepers. Defendant was fined ten shillings for not having scales verified, and £lO for tampering with the scales.
