11TH BATTERY

REPRESENTATIONS TO MINISTER. The many public objections to the proposed removal of the 11th Battery, New Zealand Artillery, from Invercargill to Dunedin have caused the Southland League to make an emphatic protest against the action of the Defence Department. The following telegram has been sent to Sir Joseph Ward, M.P.: —“Strong publie feeling here against the proposal to remove the 11th Battery from Southland to Otago. Please inquire the reason for the change and enter a strong protest.” Mr W. Hinchey, president of the league, yesterday morning received the following reply from Sir Joseph:—"l have made representations to the Minister of Defence against the proposed removal of the 11th Battery. I will telegraph you to-morrow.”
