VALEDICTORY

PRESENTATION AT WALLACETOWN. Last Monday evening, June 27, a number of friends gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Flynn, Wallactown, to bid farewell to them on their departure from the district. Mr Bell was unanimously voted to the chair and opened the programme with the toast of the guests. Mr Bell spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Flynn’s capability in farming and also of his and Mrs Flynn’s many good qualities as neighbours and friends.

The chairman’s remarks were endorsed by Messrs Young, McDonald, Carsyvell, Blaikie, Hannon, J. McDonald, Blatch, Riddle and L. Young. Mr Bell then called on Mr Mclntosh to make the presentation. Mr Mclntosh in making the presentation said that during Mr and Mrs Flynn’s short sojourn in the district they had been very highly esteemed, evidence of this being the large gathering who assembled to bid them farewell. Mr Mclntosh then presented Mrs Flynn with a case of stainless fish knives and forks, a dozen stainless knives and a pair of silver serviette rings, Mr Flynn a solid leather suit case, a suede tobacco pouch and cigarette holder.

Mr Flynn on rising to respond was greeted with applause. He said he could not find words to express his feelings, but wished to thank one and all for their handsome presents. Mrs Flynn also returned thanks.

A lengthy toast list was then honoured. During the evening songs were rendered by Messrs T. Fraser, J. Cox, H. Carswell, Byers, J. McDonald, P. Stiven, Fraser; recitations by Messrs Prendergast and Cox, and a bagpipe selection by Mr L. Blaikie. After a dainty supper had been partaken of, dancing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning, music being supplied by Miss M. Ford and Mrs Flynn.
