LOSER’S PURSE WITHHELD. KID DELANEY IN TROUBLE. Auckland, July 1. After a full investigation into the facts, and after examining Kid Delaney at length, the Northern Boxing Association resolved to withhold the loser’s share of the purse due to Delaney as the result of his, fight with Matt Hatton in the Town Hall on Monday evening. Delaney was knocked out in the first minute of the first round. The proceedings were taken in committee and there was a full attendance of the executive, Mr E. A. Craig, president of the association, presiding. The following official statement was issued: “We are satisfied that Ross and Delaney are one and the same individual, but we are not satisfied that Delaney put up his best display. We are also agreed that he has not shown the frankness required during the investigation, nor has he shown fairness to the Northern Boxing Association or the public. His statement that he had advised us by letter on more than one occasion that he was not a topnotcher is quite untrue and is not borne out by his correspondence, in fact it was rather to the contrary.” It was resolved to confirm the action of the president in holding the loser’s share of the purse, and that a full statement of the case be forwarded to the New Zealand Boxing Council with the recommendation that Delaney’s license should be cancelled. In the event of the Council upholding the action of the association, it is proposed to donate the loser’s share of the purse to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. WALKER KNOCKS OUT MILLIGAN. (Rec. 9.5 p.m.) London, June 30. In the fight between Milligan and Walker the former had the better of the early stages, his speedy footwork enabling him to evade Walker’s blows, whilst he himself got in some goot hits in the sixth round. However, Walker began to get the upperhand and Milligan thereafter was repeatedly floored, his punches lacking sting. Walker was hitting with great effect in the ninth round. Milligan was down for eight and came up dazed in the tenth. Walker immediately went for a finish and knocked Milligan to the boards with a second blow to the jaw, which saw the latter counted out. He attempted to rise at nine but fell back.—-A. and N.Z.
