Captain Mitchell, companion of Zane Grey, condemns spoon fishing in the Tongariro River, stating that it is far from sportsmanlike. He describes the Tongariro as a wonderful fishing river, and states that anglers coming to the Dominion would be disappointed if they found spoon fishing was allowed there instead of only fly fishing.
