TRAIN DERAILED
MISHAP NEAR DUNEDIN EIGHT TRUCKS LEAVE THE RAILS SOUTHBOUND EXPRESS DELAYED When a small, half-frozen band assembled at4he railway station prior to the arrival of the through express on Saturday evening, it was to find a notice on the notice board advising that she would not reach Invercargill until about twelve o’clock. As a matter of fact it was 1.30 a.m. before the weary travellers found themselves at the end of their journey and made the best of their way homewards in the face of the most severe frost registered since June 17, 1925. From the Railway Department it was learned yesterday that a derailment of a goods train on a cutting in the vicinity of McGregor’s tunnel, Upper Port Chalmers, was the cause of the delay. Five wagons dropped over the bank at the side of the railway line, and three others came off the tracks. The cause of the accident has not yet been ascertained.
