TO-DAY’S BIG CLASH
STAR v. PIRATES. To-day’s attendance at Rugby Park should be the largest there has been this season, for the public dearly like to see those old rivals Pirates and Star in action. The first time they met there was plenty of incident in the game, but play failed to reach a high standard. To-day, however, both teams will be at full strength and as they are playing much better football, there should be ninety minutes of bright Rugby. Star will be a very different team from that which met Pirates before, a number of Marist players having greatly strengthened the ranks of the Blue and Whites. But that they will need to be strengthened was apparent from the first clash, for Pirates are doughty opponents with a pack of forwards with height, weight and pace. Anything might happen to-day and anyone whQ» stays away from Rugby Park is liable to miss some electrical football. The other match is between Invercargill and Southern, and although it will not create the same interest as the game on No. 1 ground, there should be plenty of open play to be seen. Both matches commence at 2.30 p.m.
