ATTAINING SPEED

PLANE TO DO 300 MILES PER HOUR. AMERICAN NAVY’S LATEST. (Rec. 8.45 p.m.) Washington, June 16. The Navy Department has announced that they are completing an aeroplane capable of flying at a speed of 300 miles per hour. The machine will contain what is considered to be the largest airplane engine ever built, consisting of 24 cylinders and developing 1250 horsepower. The effort will be made to exceed the speed record held by the French of 278.48 mile per hour. The engine wil be adaptable for use in heavy bombing.—A. and N.Z.
