FREE STATE ELECTIONS
MR COSGRAVE UNABLE TO FORM GOVERNMENT. London, June 16. Mr W. T. Cosgrave, President of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State, announces that he is not forming a Government owing to his party being in a minority.—Sun Cable. LAST OPPOSITION IN POWER. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, June 17. Mr Cosgrave is taking up the attitude that those who were in the Opposition in the last Dail, meaning Labour and other groups, are now in the majority, while his own party is in the minority. He adds: “As the President is elected by a majority of the Dail, forming a Government would be a usurpation of the rights of the House.”—A. and N.Z. OVER 80 CANDIDATES FORFEIT DEPOSIT. (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) London, June 17. The Times states that 88 candidates in the Irish Free State elections forfeited their deposits of £lOO in failing to secure the quota of votes necessary to secure election. —Times.
