CRICKET CARNIVAL

FESTIVAL AT GORE. SUCCESSFUL OPENING. (From Our Correspondent.) The carnival organised by the combined Gore cricket clubs was officially opened by the Mayor, Mr D. McDougall, last evening. The hall was gaily decorated for the occasion and the attendants of the various stalls and booths were kept busy during the evening. In declaring the festival opened the Mayor made reference to the worthiness of the object. Suitable playing areas were necessary in a thriving community and it was pleasing to see a movement for the extension of sports grounds in Gore being insituted. The committte had so far collected quite a substantial sum towards their fund and it was to be hoped that the people of the town would give their utmost to the Carnival Committee which was doing such excellent work. The function is to be continued this evening and to-morrow.
