STRONG PROTEST
LIMBLESS SOLDIERS REPRESENTATIVE AT CONFERENCE MR T. S. MILLER IN DISFAVOUR (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 15. A strong signed by a number of limbless returned soldiers, was presented today to the chairman of the Dominion Returned Soldiers’ Association Conference against the admission of Mr T. S. Miller to the conference as the sole representative of the limbless returned soldiers of the Dominion. The grounds of the protest were that there was no evidence that he was in any way their representative, and that they had reason to believe that he was connected with furthering the interests of one firm of limb-makers. The signatories to the protest expressed themselves as in favour of keeping all discussion on the subject of artificial limbs free from interference in any shape or form by limb-makers, and strongly depreciated the growing practice of permitting limb-makers outside Wellington to convene meetings of limbless men and lead a deputation under the auspices of the local Returned Soldiers’ Association. The following officers were elected for the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association:—President, Major General Sir Andrew Russell; vice-president, Mr W. Perry (Wellington) ; Dominion honorary treasurer, J. D. Harper ; Dominion Executive, Messrs D. G. Munro, C. W. Balten, A. T. Duncan (Wellington), A. C. Laing, J. M. White (Dunedin), N. A. Vercoe (Nelson), R. G. Cuthbert and W. E. Leadley (Christchurch), A. S. Carr and M. Aldred (Auckland); representative on the Canteen and Regimental Trust Funds Board, M. Aldred; delegate on the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Executive, N. McConochie; representative on the National War Funds Council, J. D. Harper; auditors, Messrs Clarke, Menzies, Griffen and Ross.
