STEAMER DISABLED

IN TOW FOR BRISBANE. (Rec. 8 p.m.) Sydney, June IS. The steamer Proteus, from Sydney to New Caledonia, which was disabled and rendered helpless in a storm three hundred miles off the New South Wales coast, has been picked up by the steamer Crosskeys, which is towing her to Brisbane. The Protens is not equipped with wireless, and was unable to report the accident until the Crosskeys, which is wirelessly equipped, took her in tow. —A. and N.Z.
