FAMOUS WRITER DEAD. London, June 15. Obituary: Jerome K. Jerome. Jerome Klapka Jerome was born at Walsall on May 2, 1859, the son of the Rev. Jerome C. Jerome. He was educated at the Marylebone Grammar School, and was successively clerk, schoolmaster, actor, journalist, editor of the Idler 1892-7, and of To-Day 1893-7. His first publication was “On the Stage and Off” in 1888, quickly followed by “Idle thoughts of an idle fellow,” “Three men in a boat,” “Diary of a Pilgrimage,” “Novel Notes,” and a host of other stories and plays, mostly of a light but philosophical kind. His last work, “My Life and Times,” an autobiography, was published shortly before his death.
