FREE KINDERGARTENS
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Free Kindergarten Council was held in the Gala street Kindergarten yesterday. Mrs Cruickshank presided in the absence of Mrs F. Burwell, over the following members:—Mesdaines Pryde, Campbell, Chewings, Denton, McKeever, Fraser, Grant, Wilson and Walker. The possibilities of holding a jumble sale this month were discussed and it was decided that arrangements be made and that a special meeting be called later in the month to decide upon a definite date. Mrs Chewings proposed that Mesdaines Strang and Carman be appointed to fill the vacancies on the council. The motion was seconded and carried. A letter from Miss Bathans, of Dunedin, asking that representatives be sent to the refresher courses for teachers and council members to be held in Dunedin on Wednesday, was received. After some discussion it was decided that it was impossible owing to the short notice received and to the unsuitable train arrangements to send a representative. It was further decided that the secretary should write to Miss Bathans explaining this, and asking that next year the refresher course be held, if possible, in the term holidays. Notice was received that Mrs Walker had been appointed to the council as a representative of the Gala street Kindergarten. REPORTS. GALA STREET.
