RUGBY LEAGUE.

CANTERBURY LEAGUE RESENTFUL Christchurch, June 13, The following resolution was carried by the Canterbury Centre of the Rugby League: —In the opinion of the Rugby League, the action of the English Rugby League in breaking the contract existing between the controlling bodies of Australia, New Zealand and the English Rugby League is inimical to the best interests of the code, and this centre calls upon the New Zealand Council to get into touch at once with Australia with a view to bringing about such regulations as will tend to defeat the object of the English Rugby League which

1 appears to be endeavouring to get the best colonial players to the detriment of the code in Australasia. RESIDENTIAL CLAUSE. ENGLISH LEAGUE’S ACTION RESENTED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Sydney, June 13. The action of the English Rugby League in breaking the agreement relating to residential qualifications for Australian and New Zealand players is strongly resented in New South Wales Rugby League circles. Delegates will meet during the coming week when probably the matter will be discussed and some action taken to counteract the English League’s intentions. It is stated that already an agent of the Huddersfield Club has secured one New South Wales player, and several others, both in New South Wales and Queensland, have been approached.—A. and N.Z.
