Mr A. H. Mackrell returned to In vercar* gill by Saturday’s express. Lieutenant R. Robertson, Second Cadet Battalion, Southland Regiment, has qualified for his captaincy. Lieutenant K. McDonald, formerly of A Company, First Battalion, has been transferred to the Otago Regiment. Captain G. E. Pollock, A Company, Southland Regiment, qualified for the rank of major at the recent military examinations. Lieutenant J. Page, A Company, First Cadet Battalion, Southland Regiment, qualified for his captaincy at the recent examinations. His Worship the Mayor, Mr John Miller, who has been in Wellington on municipal mutters, returned to Invercargill by Saturday night’s express. A Sydney message records the death of f Mr. Chisholm, a prominent sporting man, racehorse owner, and breeder, aged 69. He was the founder of the firm of H. Chisholm and Co. The local Defence Office announces that Lieutenant R. Bleakley and Lieutenant T. Honeywood, both attached to the First Cadet Battalion, have been transferred to the Reserve of the Southland Regiment. The death occurred on Saturday of Hone Tikao, aged 77, chief of the Rapaki and Port Levy Maoris, states a Christchurch Press Association message. He was a nephew of John Tikao, one of the chieftains who signed the Ngaitahu Land transfer by which nearly the whole of Canterbury was ceded to the British. Hone Tikao had the largest claim under the Ngaitahu Land claims, now being considered.
