W.C.T.U.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The district quarterly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in St. John’s Hall, Tay street, on Saturday, June 11, there being present the district officers, members and delegates from Riverton, Winton, Wyndham, Ryal Bush, Orepuki and Central, South, North and Y. Unions. The district president, Mrs Fairbairn, opened the meeting with a hymn, and Mrs Gilmour, president of North Union, led in prayer. _ Miss McLay, the Y. organiser, read from Ezekiel chapter 37, verses 1-14, on which she based her remarks, inspiring all those present. Later she gave an interesting report of her work among the young people in this district. A comprehensive report of the quarter’s work was read and adopted. Matters in connection with the appointment of women police were discussed and a resolution urging the necessity of such appointment was carried, the same to be forwarded to the Premier. The president reported that work in connection with the “two-issue” ballot paper petition had been satisfactorily carried out. Other matters of importance were also discussed. Afternoon tea was provided by ladies of the town unions and a sacred solo was rendered by Miss Langskaill. The district president closed the meeting by pronouncing the Benediction.
