NOT SO LUCKY

NEGRO NOAHS. Memphis, May 14. Exhorted by their parson, the coloured community of the lowlands, near Baton Rouge, emulated the example of Noah and built an ark when they heard that the flood was approaching. Into the crowded vessel, they carried all their worldly belongings, including chickens, dogs, and mules, and then waited and prayed happily. The flood came all right, but the ark refused to float. Water poured in through hundreds of leaks and when the floor of the stranded craft was covered to a depth of two feet the occupants fled for safety to the nearest railway embankment.—Sun Special.
