Girl Guide Notes.
(By “Tenderfoot.”) Now that the school holidays are over, ' and the companies have settled down once more to weekly meetings, I am expecting some local Guide news. { On Tuesday, Miss Wera Macpherson, who was for a year Provincial Secretary and who leaves on Saturday for Auckland, was i entertained by the local Southland executives at a farewell afternoon tea. During j the afternoon Mrs J. G. Macdonald presented Miss Macpherson with a silver Thanks Badge. It is sad to record the burial of two Girl Guides on one day, writes a correspondent of the Dunedin Evening Star. On Tuesday last Guide Evelyn Kay, of the Ist Roslyn Company, and Guide Adamson, of Ravensboume Company, were laid to rest at the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery. During their short lives (says an appreciative reference) their loving comradeship set an example, and will ever be held in affectionate remembrance by those with whom they so loyally served. The funerals were attended by a number of officers and Guides. j MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. | The monthly meeting of the executive was held on Saturday morning, Mrs. J. G. Macdonald presiding over the following members: Dr. Gow and Mesdames Nelson (Winton), Jordan and Wilson (Riverton), Malcolm (Wyndham), Hinchey (Bluff), Mackrell, Mitchell, Morrah, Thomson, Gumbley, Scandrett, Mclnnes and Miss Way- , mouth. The question of the necessity of appointing a librarian to order and distribute copies of the Dominion Girl Guide was considered, and it was decided to ask Mrs H. O. Stuckey to fill the position. Mrs. Jordan reported that Miss Onio Trotter had been appointed assistant lieutenant at Riverton. The Provincial Commissioner read the annual report and balance-sheet of the Do- ! minion annual Conference held recently in | Auckland. The question of the Lady Alice Fergusson I prize for the best sewer in the Dominion was considered, and it was decided that circulars be sent to them asking for two specimens of sewing from each company to be sent to the executive for a preliminary , examination. The executive would then , choose the four girls best suited to compete. , It was proposed by Mrs Mclnnes and seconded by Mrs Thomson that a letter be sent to Auckland asking for information about the sewing materials to be used in the test. The motion was carried. * j It was proposed by Mrs Mitchel and seconded by Mrs Mackrell that for the Southland test a child’s frock wtih magyar bodice j and gathered skirt should be made. The motion was carried. Mrs. Gray (Riverton) who sent in her resignation as vice-president, was asked to reconsider the matter as the position was only an honorary one. Mrs. J. G. Macdonald read the rules for ' the guidance of local associations drawn up by the Southland Executive. Mrs Mclnnes proposed that a copy of these be sent to headquartera. Dr. Gow seconded the motion which was carried.
