CHAMBER. OF COMMERCE

MEETING OF INVERCARGILL BODY. The usual monthly meeting of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, Mr T. W. Vickery presiding over the following members: Messrs W. I. Hessell, C. B. Tapley, J. McNeil, L. W. Spencer, D. Rutledge, D. J. Wesney, A. E. Bath, J. Stevenson, H. Ruffell, S. Tomlinson, C. Bradfield. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr L. B. Beale, his Majesty’s Trade Commissioner, wrote stating that he would be pleased to accept the invitation of the Chamber to give an address in Invercargill, but he could see no possibility of getting to Invercargill before the opening of Parliament. —Received. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce wrote stating that the following resolution had been passed by the Chamber at a recent meeting. “That this Chamber of Commerce views with disapproval the demands made by the farmers both in Australia and New Zealand, for embargo or prohibitive duties between the two countries on the direct products of the land. The support of other Chambers is asked in requesting the Government to continue and improve upon the reciprocal tariff now in force.”—Received. A communication was received from the Real Estate Institute of Southland which stated that it had been decided to adopt the same scale of charges as the Otago and South Canterbury Institute. A copy of the scale of charges was forwarded and the Institute requested that the schedule should be included in the Chamber’s rules.—Received, Messrs R. M. Strang; J. H. Reed, Gleen and Bradfield being appointed a committee to go into the matter.
