At Bumside to-day, fat cattle, sheep and fat pigs were cheaper while lambs were dearer. Sheep. A big penning. A fair supply of prime quality wethers, several heavy-weight pennings and the balance good crossbred wethers. Ihere were some fine wools and a fair proportion of ewes. The market opened quietly but the demand improved and heavies were a shade firmer at times. Medium weights met with a brisk demand. As the sale progressed, values eased on prime sheep by from 1/6 to 2/- per head on the opening rates. Prices.—Extra heavy prime wethers to 47/-; prime heavy 40/6 to 42/6; fair weights 33/- to 36/-; light 23/to 28/-; extra heavy ewes to 31/-; heavy 22/- to 24/-; medium 14/9 to 18/-. Lambs. A big penning. The proportion of prime lambs was very fair, but some few pens were unfinished. All prices were up fully 1/- per head. Pigs.—A penning of 125 fats and 28 stores. Fats eased by fully 5/- per head and stores sold at last sale’s rates. ADDINGTON MARKETS. ADVANCED PRICES. Christchurch, June 8. Light entries were the rule to-day in practically all sections of fat stock and prices showed a sharp advance, particularly for fat sheep. Store Sheep.—A very small entry. Lambs sold scarcely so briskly as last week and only the best, of the ewes and wethers maintained late rates, few buyers operating. Values were: Three-quarterbred ewe lambs 19/10; crossbred ewe lambs 15/9 to 18/7; Good crossbred wether lambs 15/6; halfbred wether lambs 12/6 to 13/3; mixed sexed haifbred lambs 16/3; four and sixtoothed halfbred wethers 21/3 to 22/6; two-toothed halfbred wethers 16/6; sound and failing-mouthed three-quarterbred ewes 13/9 to 19/7 ; sound mouthed crossbred ewes 20/- to 23/4; six-toothed halfbred ewes 24/- to 25/-; two and four-toothed halfbred ewes 26/7; two and four-toothed crossbred ewes 26/9; aged ewes 7/- to 9/-. Fat Lambs.—A small entry of 1200. A very firm sale, the export schedule of 9d a lb for firsts being exceeded with heavy weights proportionately higher. Extra prime lambs to 30/10; prime lambs 27/to 29/6; medium lambs 24/- to 26/9; light lambs 20/- to 23/9; store lambs 16/10 to 19/6. The entry was on the small side though it did not represent a bareness for butchers. A keen sale was experienced, ewes being up from 2/6 to 3/- per head and wethers by 2/- on last week. Values were well in advance of exporters’ prices. Fat Cattle.—A much smaller yarding, numbering 470 head, against recent averages of 600. An all round advance for good beasts of 20/- per head resulted.
