VAGRANT VERSE
THE ORETI ANTHOLOGY. (Written for the Southland Times.) 81. —Bohemia. The song of Bohemia scatters the lovely day, The road to Bohemia leads downward from the sun, But those who would follow such a devious way Shall die with their life’s work forever all undone. The road to Bohemia wanders sloping down To a hamlet old and straggling, close to the noisy sea, But if you follow that track winding on and brown, You’ll never attain at all what you wish or dream to be. The steeps of Bohemia lead higher and higher up, To cities of dream perched on the rocky heights, There is neither bread nor wine there hut a silver cup Filled with an nectar rare and rare delights. The song of Bohemia is not for men to But it stirs the heart to glamour in this and every age, It floats .through the ether and touches everything And dwells in the soul of the artist and the sage. —Southerner. Invercargill, May 8.
