GORE DOG TRIALS
MEETING OF CLUB. At a meeting of the Gore Sheep Dog Trials Club held on Saturday, Mr J. S. Waddell presided. The secretary presented a preliminary financial statement relative to the recent trials, which showed that the sale of tickets had increased by £6 7/6 over the figures for last year, and that the club had increased its balance by £lB 15/-. The statement was as follow— Expenditure—Secretary’s salary, 1926, £5 5/-, prizes £44 12/-, judge 17/6, catering £2 3/-, attendants £6, advertising and printing £5 10/3, cartage £l, prize sheepguessing £l, stamps, ’phones and exchanges 9/10, credit balance £45 10/2, total £ll2 7/9. Receipts—Balance forward £26 14/9, special prizes £2 2/-, donations £4 15/-, members’ tickets £52 2/6, cake guessing £2 8/-, sheep-guessing £3 17/-, entry fees £l9 7/6, Gore Stock Agents’ donation O.S. £1 1/-; total, £ll2 7/9. Mr Kerr, in seconding the motion that the statement be received, stated that the result was very satisfactory to all concerned, and it reflected great credit on the president, secretary and those members who had done so much in the selling of members’ tickets. The result was very encouraging, and it was quite a good thing to see the young fellows encouraged in this class of sport. He hoped the club would continue to prosper and keep on the right side of the ledger. The president (Mr Waddell) said the trials had been very successful, and his thanks were due to those gentlemen who had in any way assisted towards this end. The club would require to consider the advisability of securing a more hilly ground for the trials, as, although the racecourse had every convenience and the Racing Club had been very good, the men running the dogs were asking for hilly ground to give the dogs a fair run on the type of country they were used to. Another matter would be the holding back of the trials for one month, so that they would fall just prior to Clutha and other northern trials. The statement was then received. The secretary’s honorarium was increased to £7 10/- from £5, several members referring in eulogistic terms to the excellent work done by Mr Sim in the interests of the club.
