GAME GIVEN TO WELLINGTON. OUTSIDE ARRANGEMENT SUGGESTED. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, May 6. The determination of the New Zealand Rugby Union to play the inter-island match at Wellington this season has left the Hawke’s Bay delegates feeling a little j sore. The decision w r as reached in the early hours of this morning, and was obviously the result of an arrangement outside of the conference hall, since Canterbury previously considered to have the strongest claim to the fixture, suprlsingly refused the opportunity to obtain the game. When the matter was brought up, Mr Norman McKenzie (Hawke’s Bay) moved . that his union should be given the game, and the claims of Hawke’s Bay were strongly urged by Messrs J. Norrie and O’Neill, the • other representatives of the champion province. Mr S. Harris (Otago) then suggested that , Canterbury had prior claims, but Mr S. F. 1 Wilson, leader of the Canterbury delegation, [ rose and said that the date fixed for the North v. South match was unsuitable, and too late in the season for his union.

Mr Harris next proposed that Otago be given the fixture, but this was lost on the voices. Mr McLeod (Taranaki) closed the discus, sion by stating that his union considered that the contest should always be played in Wellington. A motion to make Hawke’s Bay the scene of the match was lost bv 37 votes to 29, Canterbury’s four votes being cast for the negative. Wellington then were given the game. SOCCER.
