SAFETY AT SEA
NEW WIRELESS DEVICE. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, May 5. The early compulsion of the adoption of a distress auto-alarm on all merchant ships was foreshadowed at the annual meeting of the Marconi International Marine Communication Company. The device automatically picks up a ship’s distress calls, operates a special signal note summoning a wireless operator even when off duty in whatever part of the ship he may be.—A. and N.Z.
