The Northwest Commission on the alleged killing of natives heard sensational evidence given in a letter, produced by the Commissioner of Police from Police-Inspector Douglas, who stated he visited Golegotemerrie where he found twenty-one human teeth and undoubted burnt human remains at two fires. Douglas had been told that four aboriginal men had been burned at one fire, and three gins at the other. In a further statement, Inspector Douglas said that investigations satisfied him that sixteen natives had been burned in three lots. Thousands of bone fragments were remaining.—A. and N.Z.
